Have you noticed a seemingly complicated braid and thought it was beautiful, but felt unsure of your ability to do it? The 4 strand braid is a little more complicated than the typical 3 strand, but once you practice it a bit, you will find it can be quite simple, especially if you already know how to do some braiding. Following are some tips.
There are two types of the 4 strand braid.
The first type is the 4 part plait, which is also called a flat. A flat may consist of a transverse 4 strand braid, a chain, or a slide.
The second type is the rope plait. It is actually fairly easy to do. The rope plait is rounded rather than flat.
The 4 strand braid also exists in both French and Dutch types of braids. You may wish to let an expert do a 4 strand braid for you once or twice before you try it on your own, but once you get some practice in, you will find that you can accomplish it as well.
