If you want to find out exactly what your skin needs, pay attention to how it looks and interpret the symptoms.
1. Greasy and Oily Skin
This is a sign of overactive sebaceous glands. The excess sebum makes your face look shinier. This might be because you are over-exfoliating or using harsh cleansers, so the glands are producing more oil to replace what is removed by these products. Skip washing the face too often.
2. Dry and Flaky Skin
This is your skin reacting to harsh soaps or products. Plus, over-scrubbing and over-exfoliating might be drying it out. Do not wash in very hot water (which can dry the skin), and skip alcohol-based products.
3. Uneven and Reddish Skin Tone
This can also be a reaction to harsh cleansers or dyes and fabrics, or it can be due to sun exposure. However, it may be rosacea, a condition wherein blood vessels under the skin are enlarged and leading to inflammation. Consult your doctor to get diagnosed. Otherwise, avoid cleansers with chemicals like sulfates.
You are probably stressed causing the sebaceous glands to ramp up the oil production. Other than addressing the cause of stress, use a gentle cleanser twice a day and use light foundation and powder.
5. Normal Skin
Very few people have “normal” skin without any issues. Even if the skin seems happy and healthy, take the right steps to care of it and protect it from sun damage.
